Blacking out the shop window on command: after-hours privacy, protected goods
Covering a shop window usually means fixed film, blinds or displays to set up and take down. Switchable glass turns the approach around: the same window stays clear during opening hours and turns opaque on command when it needs to be taken out of view — at closing, during a re-display, or when a service area shouldn’t be visible. No panels to fit: a single command.
The window that darkens after hours
With the shutter up but the shop closed, a clear window leaves everything inside on display. Turning opaque, the surface takes the store out of view from the street, with no blinds to draw and no film to apply. It helps at the end of the day, during display changes you would rather not show, or to conceal a service area on view. At reopening, the window turns clear again in an instant.
Displayed goods that don’t fade
The light that shows products off is the very light that degrades them: ultraviolet rays are the main cause of fading in textiles, packaging, leather and print. All our switchable films — PDLC, PNLC, SPD and Blackout — filter out almost all UV: protection for the display does not depend on the technology or colour chosen. Heat and glare control, by contrast, depends on the state the film is in — clear, opaque or dark — and this is where coloured versions and technologies such as SPD and electrochromic make the difference for the thermal comfort of a window in full sun.
After dark, a rear-projection surface
When opaque, the window becomes a surface that can also communicate. With a projector installed inside the store, the opaque glass works as a rear-projection screen: with the shop closed, the window plays content — campaigns, themed displays, announcements — visible from the street, then clears again at opening. One surface that shows products by day and communicates by night.
Which technology for the window
For privacy on command, PDLC is the baseline choice: opaque at rest, it clears only when it receives the electric input, so the window stays opaque even without power. When the aim is dark, dramatic concealment — a window that in the evening reads as an even black surface, then clears again with a smoked tint — Blackout Hyper Glass does exactly that, and it is at once an aesthetic device for the store.
One window, or a whole chain
A single window is handled with a switch. For a network of several stores the scale changes: it matters to command the windows remotely, from a single point, and to activate or deactivate them all together at evening close. With B-LOGIC you coordinate the surfaces across several stores, set schedules and scenes, and manage installations remotely. A single pane already works on its own: orchestration is the added step for anyone operating across multiple sites.
